School’s out for summer. And fun’s in! For children and young people, Islington is a great place to be. These events take place in the variety of parks, youth clubs, leisure centres, museums and schools that Islington has to offer. And many of them are free!
Here are just some of the things on offer this summer:
Clubs and projects - youth clubs, projects and playschemes are great places to spend time with friends and try out different activities, like film making, arts and crafts and street dance. There are day trips on offer for young people of all ages, while younger children will enjoy exciting and safe play facilities.
Information, advice and guidance - The summer is a time to have fun – but help is also on hand for young people. Young people can get free and impartial information, advice and guidance on lots of issues like career choices, college courses and housing.
Art, music and drama - This summer there are countless ways that children and young people can express themselves, from drama workshops and piano lessons, to contemporary dance and music production. There are also lots of performances and film screenings to go to with friends and family.
Get into libraries - Islington libraries are a great place to study, get online or hang out with friends. There is free internet access, great games to play on PS3, music CDs to borrow, all the latest graphic novels and much more. Or just sit back and relax with a magazine. For younger children there are lots of special summer activities, from crafts to competitions, and the Summer Reading Challenge.
Sports and exercise - Instead of getting glued to the sofa this summer, get stuck on sports! Summer is a great time to get into sports and there’s loads on offer for children and young people in Islington. You can take advantage of lots of sports on offer through the Free Sports Programme or £1 swimming sessions for four to 16-year-olds, or try something different like cheerleading, badminton or athletics. There’s something to suit everyone.
Parks and outdoors - Summer is the perfect time to get some fresh air and make the most of Islington’s parks and green spaces. Learn about plants and animals, take part in sports and arts activities, or just chill out with family and friends at a local festival.
